About Us

The Need

If you’ve lived in the Toms River area for any length of time, we don’t have to tell you that there’s a severe shortage of workforce housing in the area, not only for younger workers, many of whom are our own children and grandchildren, but also for the low to moderate wage employees who play a critical role in our economy and provide important services we all need.
We believe that if we do not address this critical need, the lack of adequate workforce housing will soon create a shortage of workers in the retail and service industries. And eventually it will drain the spirit of belonging that sustains the spiritual life and health of the community.

Our “Committee”

The Clergy and People of Conscience for Toms River Workforce Housing is an informal affiliation of like-minded clergy and citizens whose goal is to address the workforce housing shortage in Toms River. We propose to provide workforce housing opportunities in all areas of the township in order to avoid creating a “workforce housing” zone. We support the establishment a local rental assistance program, the creation of accessory apartments in owner-occupied homes, and the use of vacant space above commercial structures for apartments. In order to facilitate new construction and the purchase, rehabilitation, and resale of existing homes, we have created the Toms River Workforce Housing Community Land Trust.
